No Weapons Allowed in Dagbon Kingdom: Yaa Naa Declares
Yaa Naa Abukari II, the Overlord of Dagbon, has outlawed the use of assault raffles and luxuries in his realm.
The Yaa Naa clarified that the prohibition is now required to preserve the positive reputation of his country.
The Yaa Naa claimed to have learned of certain young people carrying live ammo and sophisticated weaponry at numerous traditional and cultural events with brazen impunity, particularly during the installation of regents.
This was stated by the Overlord during a hastily called meeting to transfer the freshly constructed homes to the impacted victims of the Gbewaa Palace Redevelopment project.
The Yaa Naa denounced the behavior, calling it lawlessness on the part of certain of his leaders who were engaged in the abhorrent custom.
He sent orders to all of his sub-chiefs and chiefs to carry out the directive in their own customary domains.
The Overlord stated:
“This meeting is called as a matter of agency to discuss and take steps towards saving the good image of the kingdom which is gradually being threatened through proliferation, misuse and abuse of small arms and light weapons by the youth during traditional and cultural events,”
“We should be reminded that Dagbon is not at war therefore I am directing all chiefs and the youth in Dagbon to henceforth stop the display and use of assault rifles during funerals,”
The overlord was given the assurance that his request would be fulfilled by Shani Alhassan Saibu, the Northern Regional Minister.
He declared that in order to maintain the stability of the Dagbon Kingdom, the Yaa Naa would have the backing of the Regional Security Council.
The minister stated that all chiefs in the kingdom are invited to attend, and that sub-chiefs have been granted permission to attend by the traditional council.
In order to assist the Regional Security Council (REGSE) in dealing with individuals who disobey the order, the Minister stated that they will shortly get the communiqué.”Our challenge is not to inflict on his right or what he believes is right for Dagbon; arresting the people and taking the small arms shouldn’t be difficult for REGSE,” Alhaji Shani stated.
He declared that they would make sure to follow the order now that the overlord had spoken.
Alhaji Shani stated that Dagbon is not engaged in warfare and questioned the reason behind individuals brandishing firearms despite the fact that Dagbon has been calm for a long time, necessitating a concentrated effort.
