
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the registration of new categories of party officials and dignitaries as delegates for the party’s upcoming presidential primary on January 31, 2026.
This move is in accordance with Article 13(1) (11) of the party’s constitution and a motion adopted at the National Annual Delegates Conference held in Accra on July 19, 2025.
Delegates
Those qualified are all former regional and constituency executives; all members of the National Council of Elders; 30 members of the National Council of Patrons, all former party card-bearing Members of Parliament, all former party-card-bearing parliamentary candidates, all past national officers, all external branch executives and all former external branch executives.
The others are all former party card-bearing ministers and deputy ministers, all former party card-bearing Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), 10 members from each Regional Council of Elders, 10 patrons from each region, five members of each Constituency Council of Elders and patrons from each constituency.
The rest are TESCON presidents from each recognised tertiary institution, the national TESCON coordinator, all regional TESCON coordinators and a TESCON patron from each recognised institution.
Deadline
A statement issued and signed by the Secretary to the party, Presidential Elections Committee, William Yamoah, gave the deadline for registration as Friday, September 19, 2025, and the exercise was exclusively open to officers and members who met the criteria.
It said for ease of access and efficiency, an online registration link would also be made available and circulated to the external branch executives to register digitally, adding that all other qualified members are advised to liaise with their respective regions and constituencies to register.
“The Presidential Elections Committee shall undertake a comprehensive verification and validation of the party’s album to ensure that only an authentic and credible register is used for the conduct of the presidential primary,” it said.
The committee called for cooperation and adherence to the directive in furtherance of the party’s commitment to fairness, inclusiveness and transparency.
