NPP disowns comments by Abronye and Chairman Wontumi; reaffirms commitment to democratic processes

The National Leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has publicly disowned statements made by two of its regional chairmen, asserting that their recent pronouncements “do not represent the ideals and practices of the party.”

In a press release dated September 28, 2025, and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party specifically called on the public to “disregard recent public pronouncements by the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, and the Bono Regional Chairman, Mr. Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.”

The rebuke addresses two contentious issues. First, the party clarified the process for compiling polling station albums, which Mr. Baffoe had suggested that he could manipulate in a statement on a televised broadcast.

“The Party wishes to categorically state that no individual, irrespective of rank or position, has a monopoly or unilateral control over the compilation of polling station albums,” the release stated.

It further assured that the process would be transparent, noting that “the National Secretariat will, at the appropriate time, issue clear and transparent guidelines, protocols, and procedures designed to safeguard integrity, credibility, and fairness at every stage of the process.”

Secondly, the release directly countered an allegation from Mr. Boasiako that the scheduled date for the presidential primaries was biased. “Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako has been heard alleging that the decision to hold the Party’s presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, was calculated to favour a particular aspirant. The Party affirms that this assertion is unfounded.”

The party explained that the early congress date was a strategic decision, stating, “The decision to hold an early congress is intended solely to provide the Party with sufficient time and strategic advantage to reorganise, reposition, and recapture power in 2028.”

The statement concluded with a firm reassurance of the party’s principles, saying, “The Party remains resolutely committed to upholding transparency, fairness, and internal democracy in all its processes.”
