Okere MP Proposes Monetizing High-Profile Funerals

In order to increase Ghana’s economic base, Kenneth Nana Addo, the Member of Parliament for Okere, has advocated for the commercialization of popular funerals and festivities.

Kenneth Nana Addo, speaking to Parliament, said that cultural events, particularly funerals, have a lot of unrealized economic potential.

He urged the development of a dedicated organization to handle funerals within the tourism calendar and stress rituals such as laying in state, funeral dress, and exhibitions, which may attract the worldwide market.

He maintained that the local economy would gain a great deal from the strategic monetization of such events, generating revenue streams to aid in Ghana’s growth.

The recently appointed Minister of Tourism was asked by Kenneth Nana Addo to give this project top priority and put in place a strong framework to take advantage of cultural aspects of tourism.
