One Student Injured As Classroom Shed Collapses In Sissala East
A log from their classroom shed collapsed and fell on a student at the Sumborun basic school in the Sissala East Municipality, injuring her skull.
The development of the school’s edifice, which had been underway for the previous four years under the Northern Development Authority (NDA), has come to a standstill, according to Assemblyman Dangor File of the Sumboru Electoral Area, who spoke with the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
According to him, the students, who were between the ages of six and eight, helped rebuild the classroom sheds in order to protect them from the inclement weather. Their parents, on the other hand, declined to take part in the yearly repair ritual when classes resumed after summer break, citing their involvement in farming.
Sadly, one of the logs fell on a student, hitting her in the head, while other students only received minor injuries, according to Mr. Dangor, who was collecting tree branches and other leaves to maintain the incomplete building.
Following treatment, Zaachi Hanawu, a primary one student, was cleared to leave the community clinic, according to GNA checks.
Freelance photographer Mr. Fataw Ayamga made a request for the Municipal Education committee and other relevant parties, such as the MP, to visit the Sumborun community and conduct an evaluation in order to determine what steps may be taken to address the situation.
He urged the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the school to take an active role in aiding the school’s infrastructural development by offering shelters before the government intervened.
The three-unit Sumborun classroom block, which still needed a roof and supplies for the school, was one among the abandoned projects in the area that the Sisalla East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Fuseini Batong Yakubu, confirmed he had previously asked the NDA to help with.
The doctor’s bungalow and maternity ward at Welembelle, the Banu Police post, the Lilixia Kindergarten block, the Dangi classroom block, the three-unit classroom block at Dolunbizon, the Bujan maternity ward, the Kuroboi CHIPs compound, and the Challu community center were among the unfinished projects scattered throughout the Municipality, according to him.
