The family of Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) running mate, is seeking a full apology from Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for derogatory remarks made against their daughter.
They considered the assertions by the NPP representative, that Prof. Opoku Agyemang is divorced and from the Northern region, as offensive and disrespectful.
William Batch Kwofie, the Acting family head of Apatano Nsona Ebusua of Akatakyi in Komenda, delivered the warning during a press conference on Thursday. He has given the NPP representative a one-week deadline to retract his statements and offer an apology. Mr. Kwofie emphasized that failure to comply would result in punitive measures. Grace Atta French, an aunt of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, urged Chairman Wontumi to provide evidence to support his allegations.
John Quaicoe, the NDC Chairman for KEEA, denounced Chairman Wontumi’s remarks and urged the NPP to publicly disavow his behavior.
He encouraged the northern region to express their discontent with the NPP by supporting the NDC in the elections. Mr. Quaicoe emphasized that the NDC is the only political party that welcomes and celebrates all ethnicities.
