Otumfour calls for review of Free SHS: “let those who can afford pay”

Otumfour Osei Tutu II has weighed in on the debate over Free Senior High School, urging a review of the policy to address its implementation shortcomings.

During a meeting with the Minister of Education and his envoy—who paid a courtesy call to the Asantehene—Otumfour called on the government to rethink the policy.

“A Free Senior High School where students go to school and starve, returning home every three days, is of no use,” he said. “Let’s do it well so that students are comfortable in school and only return home for vacations.”

He further suggested that those who can afford to pay should be allowed to do so.

“The person who can pay, let’s allow them to pay. In times past, students who excelled but were needy were sponsored with scholarships, while those who could afford it were allowed to pay,” he added.
