Owner Of Luggage Emitting Smoke At Kotoka Airport Transferred To NIB

The Kotoka International Airport’s management has reported that, on Sunday, September 22, at around 3:27 p.m., smoke was detected coming from a passenger’s luggage in the Terminal 3 Departure Hall.

The Operations Room of the Aviation Security Department acted right away upon discovering the suitcase at the baggage wrap area.

Following the expeditious isolation of the bag by the security personnel, passengers within the terminal were evacuated in accordance with the Ghana Airports Company Limited’s (GACL) Emergency Operations protocols.

The National Investigations Bureau (NIB) has received the passenger in question and will question her, according to a statement released by KIA management.

Additionally, the GACL cautioned travelers that it is against international civil aviation regulations to fly with batteries. Batteries and other forbidden objects found in luggage will be seized, and the owner will be turned over to the police.

Passenger safety continues to be GACL’s first priority, as the management thanked everyone in the departure hall for their cooperation throughout the evacuation.

Since then, terminal operations have seamlessly resumed.
