Parliament Endorses GHS31bn Allocation For Education Ministry

The Ministry of Education’s 2025 budget of GHS31 billion has been approved by Parliament.

In an effort to increase access to higher education, the Ministry aims to remove academic fees for all first-year students in public tertiary institutions this year.

In an effort to lessen the financial strain on families, the government will also provide free postsecondary education to individuals with impairments.

Under the “Teacher Dabrɛ Initiative,” the Ministry intends to start building 100 housing units for basic school teachers in an effort to enhance teacher welfare.

A GHS4 billion budgetary allocation for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs for the fiscal year 2025 was already authorized by Parliament.

The money will be used to support the Ministry’s numerous initiatives and programs, as well as to provide allowances to traditional leaders and assembly members. Plans are also underway to create a National Prayer Day.

On Thursday, March 27, Governs Agbodza, the MP for Adaklu and the Minister for Roads and Highways, spoke on the floor of Parliament regarding the compensation of assembly members.
