In a major political move, former PNC National Chairman Alhaji Bela Maikankan and Second National Vice Chairman Henry Haruna Asante have joined Alan Kyerematen’s Movement For Change (M4C) and the Alliance for Revolutionary Change (ARC).
Known for their grassroots expertise, their switch is expected to boost Kyerematen’s presidential campaign.
Mr. Asante, known for his strong communication skills, previously served as Vice Chairman of the Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), a group fighting corruption and poor governance from 2009 to 2024.
Alhaji Maikankan, who ran for a parliamentary seat in Greater Accra in 2012 and served as PNC Regional Chairman there, became National Chairman in 2022.
Maikankan’s influence in Zongo communities in southern Ghana is expected to boost Mr. Kyerematen’s support in those areas.
Their endorsement joins a growing list of supporters for Mr. Kyerematen’s campaign, including Dr. Kofi Kludjeson, former President of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI); Dr. Michael Abu Sakara Foster of the National Interest Movement; Dr. Susan Adu Amankwah, former Vice Chair of the Convention People’s Party (CPP); Bishop Dr. Nii Noi Asante of the Ghana First Coalition; and businessman-politician Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike from Kumasi.
Mr. Kyerematen’s campaign, focused on unity, transformation, and a better future for all Ghanaians, is increasingly seen as a strong challenge to Ghana’s traditional political powers, the NDC and NPP.
The Movement’s Campaign
For the last thirty years, Ghana’s politics has been dominated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) without much development progress.
Currently, Ghana faces challenges like power cuts and unstable currency under an IMF program, amidst tough economic conditions.
During their regional campaign tour, Alhaji Maikankan and Mr. Asante are actively joining outreach efforts in the northern region with Alan Kyerematen’s M4C campaign team.
On Tuesday, the team engaged with artisans and mechanics at the Lamashegu Industrial Area, visited the Chief of Tamale at the Dakpema Palace, and met with senior pastors and clergy.
They also interacted with traders and shoppers at the Tamale Central Market and Aboabo Market.
The day ended with a lively mini-rally in Tamale, where enthusiastic youth groups marched with Mr. Kyerematen and his team from the market to Aboabo Lorry Park Station.
This regional campaign is part of Mr. Kyerematen’s broader strategy to gather support and offer a credible alternative to Ghana’s dominant political parties.
