Police hunt killers of 16-year-old boy shot dead at galamsey site in Amasu

The Bono Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the shooting of a 16-year-old boy, Issahaku Ansu, at an illegal mining site in Amasu, a farming community in the Dormaa East District.

According to a police statement signed by the Bono Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the incident occurred on Sunday, August 31, 2025, when the victim was gunned down by an unknown assailant while engaged in galamsey activities.

“Investigations suggest that the victim was shot from a nearby bush while engaged in illegal mining activities, causing others at the site to flee,” the statement said.

Police officers who arrived at the scene found the teenager’s body with multiple gunshot wounds to the back and blood oozing from his nostrils. The victim was wearing a wine-coloured pair of boxer shorts soaked in blood, which has been retained as evidence.

The body has since been deposited at the Dormaa Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The police assured the public, particularly residents of Amasu and its neighbouring communities, that all efforts were underway to apprehend those behind what it described as a “heinous crime.”
