Police intercept over GH¢1m hidden in fertiliser bags on commercial vehicle

The Volta Regional Police Command has intercepted a large sum of Ghanaian currency concealed in a commercial vehicle en route to the Ashanti Region.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at approximately 4:45 pm during a routine snap check at Juapong.
According to a statement issued on Thursday, June 5, 2025, by DSP Felix Danku of the Public Affairs Unit in the Volta Region, officers discovered 68 fertiliser bags filled with GH¢1 notes and coins, totalling GH¢1,021,700, in a Ford Transit Bus bound for Kumasi.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Edward Ansah, reportedly told investigators he had been contracted by an unnamed individual in Kumasi to transport the money from Ho in the Volta Region to the Ashanti capital.
The suspect is currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
Police say the public will be updated on the investigation’s outcome in due course.
