Police Investigates Abetifi Violence: 6 Injured, 25 People Remanded
26 people have been placed under police detention by the Mpraeso District Court, which is chaired by Her Lordship Adwoa Akyemaa Ofosu, in connection with the violent altercations that took place in Abetifi on Thursday.
The grroup is expected to reappear on November 14, 2024, and consists of one woman and twenty-five men.
A group of armed men commanded by Obaapanyin Yaa Asantewaa, the Abrewatia, attacked the Abetifi Palace in order to depose Kwahu Adontenhene Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III, who is now serving as the Kwahu Traditional Area’s acting president. This resulted to the altercation.
She was led to the Abetifi Palace, where Asiedu Agyemang III was detained by the men, who the locals initially believed to be National Security agents.
After forcing Akyemfour Agyemang III to an older palace nearby, Yaa Asantewaa and the armed men carried out various customary procedures intended to destool him, including the ritualistic slaughter of a sheep.
Outraged by the deed, a group of young people with machetes launched a retaliatory assault that would have intensified if the cops hadn’t stepped in quickly.
However, cutlass injuries were inflicted on six individuals.
