Police restore calm in Adoagyiri after violent youth clashes

Calm has been restored in Adoagyiri by the Eastern South Regional Police Command following violent clashes between youth groups that erupted on May 22, 2025.

The confrontation involved nearly 300 youths who blocked roads, set fire to tyres, and vandalized shops and vehicles, creating widespread disorder in the town.

According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Eastern South Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service, a re-enforcement team from the National Police Headquarters and the National Formed Police Unit was dispatched to the area. Their swift response successfully brought the situation under control.

The violence stemmed from a shooting incident that occurred on May 20, 2025, which left one person dead and another injured. The police identified the location of the incident as Adoagyiri. A subsequent reprisal attack led to further injuries, sending three more individuals to the hospital for medical attention.

Tragically, one of the injured victims, identified as Isaah Masawudu, succumbed to his wounds while receiving treatment. His death reportedly triggered the unrest, with youth from the Adoagyiri Zongo area launching a rampage in response.

Authorities have since intensified efforts to apprehend all individuals involved in the disturbances to ensure they face the full rigors of the law. The Eastern South Regional Command is urging residents to remain calm while police continue to maintain law and order in Adoagyiri and the surrounding communities.

The statement was signed by ASP Foster Owusu, head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Eastern South Region.
