Police widen Mahama threats investigation

Police widen Mahama threats investigation to include illegal arms, helicopter crash fake news

The Ghana Police Service has expanded its investigation into a viral TikTok video in which threats were allegedly made against President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama.

Police say the case is now linked to the possession of illegal arms and the circulation of false information about the recent military helicopter crash.

In a statement on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, the police named four suspects in custody.

They are Daniel Adomako, also known as “Sir Obama Pokuaase”, Prince Ofori, Yayra Abiwu, and Emmanuel Kwaku Kwakye.

According to the police, the first three were initially connected to the video containing the threats.

Mr Adomako and Mr Kwakye are also under investigation for allegedly possessing and displaying sophisticated weapons.

The police said the arrests followed a weeks-long intelligence-led operation conducted with other security agencies.

The operation led to the seizure of a large quantity of illegal arms and ammunition. Investigators are reviewing images and videos posted online that allegedly show the weapons.

The statement added that the three original suspects in the threats case are now also being investigated for circulating false information and issuing further threats after the August 6 helicopter crash, which killed eight people, including two cabinet ministers.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, said the service will continue to protect the public and deal with criminal activity.

She urged the public to provide credible information to support the ongoing investigations and said all suspects will be processed in line with the law.
