Nana Bediako, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) publicity team, has stated that pollsters have to share some of the blame for Ghana’s electoral violence.
He said that political party supporters are occasionally incited by pollsters’ and experts’ predictions.
In an interview with Adom FM’s Burning Issues on Monday, Nana Bediako stated that when the topic of election violence is brought up, people are eager to lay fingers at politicians.
In Ghana, election-related violence has resulted in property destruction and fatalities.
The public, election observers, security services, and certain political parties have expressed concern about this and have suggested taking quick steps to address it.
Nonetheless, private attorney Nana Bediako has proposed that pollsters should not be permitted to predict election results.
He told show host, Akua Boakyewaa Yiadom:
“The pollsters who predict victory for parties ahead of election should also be blamed for election violence because their predictions affect followers of the parties in a positive or negative way,”
“The IGP was bold to stop prophesies on 31st night with view that, such prophesies have negative impact or cause fear and panic. I think he should look at pollsters too,”
