President Akufo-Addo Approves Visa-Free Access To Ghana For All Africans

All African citizens can now enter Ghana without a visa thanks to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s approval.

On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, he issued an executive approval.

Ghana will become one of the only African nation to grant visa-free entrance to all holders of African passports, joining Rwanda, Seychelles, The Gambia, and Benin.

This satisfies his pledge made at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues (APD 2024) in January 2024 to allow citizens of all African countries to visit Ghana without a visa.

By guaranteeing economic integration, this will promote the free flow of people, products, and services throughout the continent, which is the driving force behind the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The policy is scheduled to go into force prior to January 6, 2025, when Akufo-Addo’s term ends.

President Akufo-Addo stressed Ghana’s commitment to the visa-free initiative in his APD 2024 keynote address, delivered under the theme “Developing Prosperity in Africa: Produce, Add Value, and Trade.”

“Many of you had to acquire a visa to attend this event,” he said, adding that “The government of Ghana is committed to ensuring visa-free travel for all Africans, and the process has begun to implement the policy this year.”
