President Akufo-Addo Launches Accra STEM Academy

The Accra STEM Academy, a school devoted to teaching science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), was officially opened by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Friday, December 27, 2024.

It is anticipated that the center will equip students with knowledge in fields including biotechnology, robotics, and artificial intelligence.

In order to provide hands-on learning with state-of-the-art tools, the President also announced the establishment of 20 STEM centers and 10 model STEM Senior High Schools across the country. These programs are a part of the endeavor to adapt education to the needs of a technologically advanced society.

The labs, classrooms, and research facilities at the Accra STEM Academy are set up to facilitate experiential learning. The government claims that the school will act as a center for innovation, allowing students to put their theoretical knowledge to practical issues.

President Akufo-Addo reiterated the importance of STEM education in addressing global trends and positioning Ghana for future advancements.

The world around us is changing rapidly. Technology is at the heart of this transformation, driving progress in educa‏tion, healthcare, agriculture, transportation, industry, and every aspect of our lives. For Ghana to thrive in this modern era, we must equip our young people with the tools they need to succeed. STEM education is not a choice – it is a necessity,” he said

He emphasized that the socioeconomic prosperity of the country depends on giving young people the necessary scientific and technological capabilities.

It is anticipated that the STEM-focused schools and centers being built nationwide will give priority to fields like data science, coding, and renewable energy, giving students the chance to work in cutting-edge fields.
