Benjamin Barfo-Bonney has been sworn in as the new Deputy Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
This took place at a short ceremony at the Jubilee House.
The new Deputy Commissioner was given the official oath, the oath of secrecy, and the pledge of allegiance by the President.
The nomination, according to President Akufo-Addo, demonstrated the government’s dedication to upholding rights, advancing administrative justice, and strengthening democratic governance in the nation.
He stated that the appointment of Mr. Barfo-Bonney in October 2024 will contribute to ensuring justice in cases that are brought before the Commission because of his extensive knowledge and experience.
The President went on to say that he is sure the new appointment would be able to handle the challenging post.
Mr. Benjamin Barfo-Bonney promised to carry out his assignment with competence and expressed gratitude for the assured rest in him.
The appointee was called to the Ghanaian and English bars, holds a Master of Science degree in Defense and International Politics, a Master of Law in International Law, and a doctorate in business leadership from the Swiss Business School in Zurich.
He takes over for the late Deputy Commissioner Richard Ackom Quayson, who died suddenly on March 21, 2024, following a brief illness.
In August 2005, Mr. Quayson was named Deputy Commissioner of the Commission, managing research and public education as well as the Commission’s anti-corruption mandate.
After serving as a legal officer at the Office of the Ombudsman, the predecessor organization of CHRAJ, from 1987 to 1993, he became a senior legal officer at the Commission in 1993.
