Accra, January 10, 2025 – The Office of the President has issued a directive mandating the immediate cessation of all activities related to the sale, lease, or processing of transactions involving state and public lands. This move aims to protect and preserve these lands for the collective benefit of citizens and future generations.
The directive, communicated in a letter signed by Callistus Mahama, Ph.D., Secretary to the President, is targeted at the Lands Commission. It instructs the Commission to halt all ongoing and pending transactions without delay to enable a comprehensive review of the current framework governing state and public land management.
Highlighting the importance of this action, the directive emphasizes the need to safeguard state and public lands to ensure their optimal use for societal and generational benefits. Furthermore, the Lands Commission has been tasked with submitting a detailed report of all recent and ongoing transactions related to these lands to the Office of the President within 14 days.
This significant policy intervention is expected to provide clarity and foster accountability in land management processes, ensuring that public resources are managed in the best interest of the nation.
