President orders investigation into Obuasi mine deaths  

President John Dramani Mahama has directed an immediate investigation into the tragic deaths of up to eight individuals, reportedly illegal miners, during a violent clash at a mining site in Obuasi.ý

The government has expressed deep regret over the loss of lives and pledged to take action to prevent such incidents in the future.

In a statement issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to the President, the government emphasized its commitment to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the clashes. Authorities have been instructed to identify and hold accountable any individuals who acted unlawfully during the incident.

To support the victims and their families, the government has tasked AngloGold Ashanti, the company managing the mining site, with covering all medical expenses for the injured and facilitating burial arrangements for the deceased.

Additionally, security agencies have been directed to restore peace in the affected area and implement measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

This tragic incident has sparked concerns about the ongoing tensions between mining companies and illegal miners in the region. As investigations unfold, the government has assured the public of its commitment to ensuring justice and safeguarding lives in the mining sector.
