Prof. Ransford Gyampo Takes Over As Acting CEO Of Ghana Shippers Authority
Ransford Gyampo, a political science professor at the University of Ghana, has been appointed the Ghana Shippers Authority’s acting CEO.
President John Dramani Mahama announced the appointment, and Prof. Gyampo will take over for Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, who was appointed in December 2024 by the former Akufo-Addo administration.
Respected academic and political commentator Prof. Gyampo is anticipated to contribute his knowledge of public administration and governance to the Authority’s leadership, which is crucial in policing Ghana’s shipping and logistics industry.
Prof. Ransford Edward Van Gyampo, who was born in Accra on March 31, 1977, has a successful academic, governmental, and public policy career that culminated in his recent appointment as the Ghana Shippers’ Acting CEO.
With twenty years of experience in both teaching and research, Prof. Gyampo is a professor of political science and the founding director of the University of Ghana’s Centre for European Studies.
In addition to his postgraduate studies at Tufts University in Boston, USA, he possesses a PhD in Political Science from the University of Ghana.

Prof. Gyampo, a visiting professor at the University of Bristol’s Institute of Advanced Studies and a visiting researcher at the University of South Florida’s Department of Government and International Relations, has made important contributions to global scholarship.
He worked with the Institute of Economic Affairs’ (IEA-Ghana) Governance Unit for 14 years prior to his current position, rising from Research Assistant to Senior Research Fellow.
He oversaw important socioeconomic and governance research initiatives throughout his time there, offering evidence-based policy suggestions to tackle Ghana’s most urgent issues.
Prof. Gyampo has influenced national discourse through his research and thought leadership, using media platforms and roundtables to impact governance and policy reforms.
