Real Madrid appear to be swiftly coming to the conclusion that changes will take place this summer, and that looks as if it will start with Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian manager appears to be on the way out this summer, and events after Los Blancos’ defeat to Arsenal have been just as damaging as those during the Champions League quarter-final.
With Ancelotti already under severe scrutiny due to results, increasingly the feeling is that it is the end of his cycle at the club, as Real Madrid still search for an effective formula with just two months left of the season. Although last week it was noted that winning La Liga and the Copa del Rey could save his job, now the word is that they are preparing an interim manager should he depart before the end of the season.
As per Relevo, Real Madrid President Florentino Perez believes that he has lost the dressing room. Perez spoke with some of his players after the game, and heard first-hand the doubts that Real Madrid’s stars have about their coach. They say that it was not a case of how many, but which players voiced their concerns, and questioned his strategy to beat Arsenal. Some of the dressing room heavyweights went out onto the pitch feeling there was no plan beyond going into the game with intensity and commitment, and have lost faith in Ancelotti’s ability to turn the situation around.
Certainly the concern for Real Madrid fans will be the final stretch of the season. Even if the feeling is that Ancelotti’s cycle is over, they face Barcelona twice before the end of the season, one in the Copa del Rey final and one in the league, both of which look decisive for the destination of the title, and obviously, the cup.
