Sammy Gyamfi appointed acting MD of PMMC, tasked with establishing Ghana Gold Board

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, Esq., as the Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC).

 

The appointment, announced on January 16, 2025, tasks Mr. Gyamfi with spearheading the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), a key initiative outlined in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 manifesto.

 

As acting MD of PMMC, Mr. Gyamfi’s mandate includes formalizing the small-scale gold mining sector, enhancing sustainable management and marketing of Ghana’s gold resources, and providing vital support services for the mining industry. The establishment of GoldBod, a top priority for the Mahama administration, is aimed at revitalizing Ghana’s gold industry to drive economic growth and benefit the Ghanaian populace. Oversight of this initiative will be under the direction of the Minister for Finance.

 

Mr. Gyamfi brings a wealth of experience to his new role. A lawyer and Economic Policy Analyst, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He is also a Barrister at Law, certified by the Ghana School of Law, and has earned a Master’s degree in Economic Policy Management from the University of Ghana. Additionally, he has attended the Harvard Kennedy School, where he completed executive programs in Emerging Leaders and Strategic Leadership.

 

With prior experience working with Exton Cubic Group Limited, a prominent mining company in Ghana, and his current role as the National Communications Officer of the NDC, Mr. Gyamfi is well-equipped to tackle this strategic national assignment.

 

The creation of the GoldBod is expected to transform Ghana’s gold industry, fostering transparency, sustainability, and profitability, while providing critical support to small-scale miners. This move reinforces the Mahama administration’s commitment to economic revitalization and sustainable development.

 

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to the President, signed the statement announcing the appointment.
