Sammy Gyamfi issues public apology over viral video with Evangelist Agradaa

National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has issued a public apology following widespread backlash over a viral video that captured him giving U.S. dollars to popular yet controversial evangelist, Mama Pat, also known as Agradaa.

In a statement released Sunday, Gyamfi clarified that the gesture was a private act of kindness, not intended for public consumption or controversy. He described the moment as “a kind gesture to a fellow human being,” consistent with what he called his life-long custom of helping people in need.

“I sincerely thought that I was doing this act of kindness in private, and never imagined that same could find its way into the public space. That is unfortunate and regrettable,” he said.

The footage, which spread rapidly online, drew sharp criticism from segments of the public, including members of his own party, who expressed disappointment over his act

Acknowledging the uproar, Gyamfi addressed the concerns of his critics directly: “I understand the uproar that this gesture has generated, particularly from comrades who are sincerely hurt by same. To all such comrades, I AM SINCERELY SORRY for this unfortunate act of indiscretion.”

He also expressed gratitude to those who reached out with support and encouragement in the wake of the criticism, stating he was “most grateful for your solidarity.”

Despite the backlash, Gyamfi reiterated his commitment to serving the country, emphasizing that his core values remain unchanged. “My view of public office as a privilege to serve society, solve problems and help others, has not changed,” he stated.

The apology comes amid a growing debate about the ethical expectations placed on public figures and the potential implications of their associations in the digital age
