Security Cameras Record Moments Leading To Train Crash
Recently released CCTV footage has provided a glimpse into the events leading up to the train accident that occurred on the Tema-Mpakadan railway during a test run last Thursday. According to a statement from the Ministry of Railways Development, the incident took place around 12:10 pm.
The footage reveals the critical moments before the accident, showcasing the train’s approach towards a curve at Km76+100. It becomes apparent that a stationary vehicle had obstructed the rail track, ultimately resulting in the collision.
This footage sheds light on the circumstances surrounding the accident, offering valuable insights into the sequence of events that led to the unfortunate incident on the railway.
The video posted on Facebook by Minister John-Peter Amewu depicts the train speeding along the track just before colliding with the truck.
As the train approached, it struck the Hyundai truck, registered as GS 9018-20, which had been left unattended on the railway. The impact caused the train to drag the truck along the tracks for a considerable distance.
According to the preliminary findings of the investigation released by the Police, it was determined that the driver of the Hyundai truck allegedly abandoned the vehicle on the railway track. This reckless act resulted in a collision between the truck and the train.
The Police emphasized that their initial inquiries indicated the negligence of the truck driver as the root cause of the accident. By leaving the truck unattended on the railway line, the driver directly contributed to the collision with the newly imported train.
