Shortage Of Oxygen Hits Tamale Teaching Hospital
Due to an engine problem, the oxygen plant at the Tamale Teaching Hospital has been closed since Monday, July 1.
The facility, which serves as a major referral hospital for five areas in northern Ghana, is experiencing a shortage of oxygen due to a technical malfunction.
In an interview with Accra-based Channel One TV, Zuberu Alidu, the Public Relations Officer, verified the development.
Technical specialists are attempting to fix the problem, according to Mr. Alidu, but no completion date has been given.
He stated:
“One of the components, a very important component of the oxygen plant got burnt and because of that the plant is not able to produce and supply. What we are doing now is to liaise with suppliers mostly in Kumasi because our suppliers within the Northern region, we are told that they aren’t able to give us oxygen.
“For now, we have what we need. Besides this, we are also in touch with the facilities referring to us, especially with Ghana Health Service such that the referral that will come, we’ll have what it takes to receive them,”
In the meanwhile, the hospital has made several concentrators accessible to help with the shortfall, according to a Medical Officer who also spoke on the matter.
The public has been encouraged to be calm as steps are being taken to address the issue.
