SONA 2025: Government Pledges 20% Bonus For Rural Teachers

According to President John Mahama, teachers assigned to underprivileged and rural areas would now receive a 20% allowance.

In an attempt to persuade educators to accept and stay in their positions in underprivileged areas, Mr. Mahama promised to implement this program before to the 2024 elections.

He reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing education in rural areas at his first State of the Nation Address (SONA), which he gave on Thursday, February 27, 2025.

The President also said that district assemblies would supervise the plan’s execution to guarantee teachers remain in their assigned positions.

No new school will be built without teachers’ accommodation,” Mr. Mahama added, announcing plans to construct teacher accommodation units in remote locations under the Teacher Dabre Initiative.

He underlined that the government’s efforts to improve education across the country continue to prioritize teacher welfare.
