The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has nominated three distinguished legal professionals—Hon. Francis Xavier Sosu, Mrs. Clara Beeri Kasser-Tee, and Dr. Abdul-Bassit Aziz Bamba—to serve on the General Legal Council (GLC), the statutory body responsible for overseeing legal education and the regulation of the legal profession in Ghana.
In a letter addressed to the Honourable Lady Chief Justice, Dr. Ayine cited Section 1(2) of the Legal Profession Act, 1960 (Act 32) and Paragraph 2(1)(d) of the First Schedule as the legal basis for the nominations. He also confirmed that President Nana Akufo-Addo had been duly informed of the appointments.
The three nominees bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the Council:
Hon. Francis Xavier Sosu, a human rights lawyer and Member of Parliament for Madina, is known for his advocacy on justice and legal reforms.
Mrs. Clara Beeri Kasser-Tee, a lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law, has made significant contributions to legal education in the country.
Dr. Abdul-Bassit Aziz Bamba, a senior lecturer at the University of Ghana, is a respected academic and legal practitioner.
Their nomination to the GLC is expected to bolster the Council’s work in regulating legal education and ensuring professional standards in Ghana’s legal fraternity.
The General Legal Council plays a crucial role in shaping the legal profession, and with these nominations, stakeholders anticipate reforms and advancements in legal education and ethical governance.
