Speaker Calls On Trade Minister To Revoke Cement Price Regulation

Kobina Tahir (K.T.) Hammond, the trade minister, has received advice from Speaker of the House Alban Bagbin to remove the contentious Legislative Instrument (L.I.) that aims to control cement pricing.

Many legal and procedural issues have been brought up in Parliament, according to Speaker Bagbin, and they must be resolved.

This came about upon the admission of the L. I for the maturity processes to be activated by Joseph Osei Owusu, First Deputy Speaker and Member of Parliament for Bekwai, who had earlier presided over the sitting.

However, Mr. Bagbin clarified that the L. I needs to be reexamined and given the full legal process.

In order to bring regularity and address the growing concerns about shifting pricing, Mr. Hammond has justified the L.I.

Manufacturers allege there was no consultation, although the Member of Parliament for Adansi-Asokwa has stated differently.
