The Speaker of Parliament has provided financial support to FC Samartex, the winners of the Ghana Premier League, as they get ready to make their CAF Champions League debut.
After winning the 2023–24 Ghana Premier League, the Timber Giants merited a spot in the continent’s top club league.
In order to get support for their continental campaign, a delegation from FC Samartex met with Speaker of the Parliament Alban Sumana Bagbin last week. In response, Bagbin promised to contribute up to 200,000 Ghanaian cedis in financial assistance.
The Speaker stated:
“As one of the three branches of government, I pledge our support to you on behalf of the Parliament of Ghana,”
“Previously, we donated 100,000 Ghana cedis to Medeama SC. Considering current interest rates and the cedi’s depreciation, an additional 100,000 might be less impactful. Therefore, we will adjust the amount according to the exchange rate and other factors, and we aim to provide up to 200,000 cedis,”
The CAF Champions League matchup between FC Samartex and Victoria United FC of Cameroon will take place.
The Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Cameroon will host the first leg on August 16–18, 2024, while the Accra Sports Stadium will host the second leg on August 23–25, 2024.
