Journalists and other witnesses to Ayawaso West Wuogon MP Lydia Alhassan handing out food packs to voters during the special voting exercise are being questioned by investigators from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
The MP was seen distributing meals to voters waiting in line at the Legon Police Station. According to reports, the food boxes were also given to security guards overseeing the procedure and representatives of the Electoral Commission.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is furious about the incident. John Dumelo, their constituency’s parliamentary candidate, vehemently denounced the move, calling it improper and possibly swaying votes.
The OSP sent detectives to the location to collect information after allegations went viral. As part of the inquiry into the suspected misbehavior, the contact information of important witnesses—including journalists—was gathered.
The inquiry emphasizes how crucial it is to follow election regulations and guarantee vote fairness.
