After ballots for the presidential and parliamentary elections were recalled, the Electoral Commission (EC) rescheduled the Special Voting exercise for the Eastern and Western Regions.
The Special Voting for these regions will now occur on Thursday, December 5, instead of Monday, December 2. EC Chairperson Jean Mensa made the declaration on Sunday, December 1, during an emergency meeting of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) in Accra.
According to Jean Mensa, the Eastern Region’s electoral materials were found to have a damaged seal, which triggered the decision.
The printing press that produced the ballots for the Eastern Region also produced those for the Western Region, despite the fact that there were no known problems with the Western Region’s ballots. As a safety precaution, the commission recalled and reordered the reprinting of ballots for both regions.
On December 2, special voting will take place as planned throughout the remainder regions.
The EC asked for collaboration and tolerance from all parties and reassured stakeholders of its dedication to upholding a genuine electoral process.
