After being postponed from its intended date of December 2, special voting for the Western and Eastern Regions is now taking place today, December 5.
Following the discovery of ballot paper leaks in the two regions, the Electoral Commission (EC) promptly rescheduled the exercise in order to preserve the legitimacy of the electoral process.
The ballot papers for the impacted areas were recalled and reprinted by the EC. Jean Mensa, the chairperson of the Commission, made the announcement at an impromptu press conference on Sunday, December 1.
In order to maintain the integrity of the voting process before to the general election in 2024, the recall was judged necessary.
There are 328 special voting locations across the country for the general election this year, which can accommodate the 131,478 voters on the special voting list.
These include election officials, media representatives, and security service members who cast ballots before the general public so they can carry out their responsibilities on election day.
Dr. Bossman Asare, a Deputy Chairperson of the EC, stated in a statement on Wednesday, December 4, that the Commission is prepared for today’s special voting exercise in the Eastern and Western Regions.
He reassured the public that every preparation required to guarantee a seamless and open procedure in the two regions had been finished.
He also urged all registered special voters in the Eastern and Western regions to take part in the voting process, stating that there would be 33 and 17 polling centers, respectively.
Additionally, Dr. Asare emphasized that individuals who do not cast their ballots on Thursday will not be able to do so on Saturday, December 7.
