Sunyani: Police Arrests 8 In Connection With Metro Mass Workshop Attack

Eight people have been taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service in connection with an attack on a Metro Mass Transit workshop in Sunyani, Bono Region.

Police said that after breaking into the workshop, the suspects threatened to force the employees to leave.

This raises the number of arrests related to property destruction and looting after the elections on December 7 to 97.

“Police rapid response teams within the area of the workshop responded swiftly to the distress call from the workshop and arrested the eight people,” ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi said during a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday.

“These eight suspects had unlawfully entered the premises of the Metro Mass Transit workshop, attacked and threatened the workers to leave their office. We wish to assure the public that the police and the other security agencies are working together to ensure peace and security within all our communities.”

Meanwhile, on Monday, December 9, a group of people who were purportedly National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters broke into the Metro Mass Transit Limited offices and pushed their way inside, restoring order.

Security officials claim that approximately 35 people showed up at the company’s offices to “guard” its assets after learning that looting had started after the NPP’s election loss.

Following indications of substantial property theft at the NADMO office in Ayawaso East, the incident occurred.

Tensions were defused when police swiftly stepped in at the Metro Mass headquarters. Operations at the headquarters have subsequently resumed without incident after the 35 people left the area.
