Supreme Court overturns contempt conviction of Akwatia MP Ernest Kumi

The Supreme Court has overturned the Koforidua High Court’s conviction of Ernest Yaw Kumi, the Member of Parliament for Akwatia, for contempt.

The apex court has also nullified the execution of the bench warrant issued by Justice Emmanuel Senyo Amadehe following Mr Kumi’s conviction.

As a result, Justice Amadehe has been barred from sentencing Mr Kumi for the contempt charge.

This decision was made on Wednesday morning [June 11] in a 4-1 majority ruling, with Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, the President of the bench, dissenting.

Justices Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu, Ernest Gaewu, Henry Kwofi, and Adjei Frimpong formed the majority.
