The Supreme Court has set December 18, 2024, as the date to deliver its judgment on the constitutional challenge against the Anti-LGBTQI+ Bill, filed by Richard Dela Sky.
The case, which has been pending since May 2024, has drawn criticism from proponents of the bill, who accused the Chief Justice of unnecessary delays. However, the Judicial Service clarified that the delay stemmed from the parties’ failure to submit required documents to advance proceedings.
Earlier, the court granted the Speaker of Parliament and the Attorney General permission to file their defences. During a hearing on Tuesday, the applicant was allowed to amend parts of his statement of case, with the defendants given the opportunity to respond.
The court subsequently adjourned the matter, scheduling its ruling for December 18.
