Swedru Secondary School Adds Japanese Language and Culture to Curriculum
The Japanese language will be taught and learned at Swedru Secondary School (SWESCO).

The Japanese language will be taught and learned at Swedru Secondary School (SWESCO).
Golda Esi Andam, the headmistress of the school, made the announcement on Saturday, March 22, at the celebration of the school’s 66th anniversary.
In her speech, Mrs. Andam emphasized the value of learning a language in the linked world of today and voiced hope that, with the right assistance, learning Japanese would soon become a reality.
Speaking to the attendees, who included dignitaries, employees, students, and alumni, Mrs. Andam emphasized the school’s dedication to providing pupils with a variety of language skills.
In addition to the English, French, Fante, and Twi classes that SWESCO currently provides, she pointed out that adding Japanese would give students even more exposure to language and culture.
Another major concern raised by Mrs. Andam was the school’s lack of internet access, which she said has affected both teaching and learning.
She lamented that the school’s Wi-Fi services had been disrupted due to the collapse of its mast, leaving students and teachers without reliable internet access.
“We had a Wi-Fi connectivity, but due to our fallen mast, unfortunately, that service is no more there and we need that because this is an institution that runs an elective ICT and we have many of the students who read elective ICT.”
