Talensi NDC Office Burned Following Dispute Over DCE Nomination

National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency office in Talensi, Upper East Region, was set on fire.

Around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency office in Talensi, Upper East Region, was set on fire.

According to witnesses, the incident happened soon after the party’s candidacy for District Chief Executive (DCE), John Millim Naabwomya, was declared.

Some party members and supporters have fiercely opposed Naabwomya’s nomination, claiming he is unpopular and was chosen because of his purported allegiance to Tongraan Nanlebegtang Kugbilsong, the Paramount Chief of Talensi, rather than by public vote.

His suspected ties to Chinese mining businesses have also drawn criticism, with locals worried that he would put the interests of the Chinese mining companies ahead of the wellbeing of the town.

In January 2025, a formal petition was filed requesting that the party’s regional leadership to reject the nomination.
