Tensions Erupt Between Bawku SHS And Bawku Technical Institute, Leaving Five Injured

On Tuesday, February 25, violence broke out during a peace ceremony between Bawku Senior High School and Bawku Technical Institute students, resulting in at least five serious injuries and multiple minor ones.

The purpose of the event, which was led by traditional leaders in the Bawku suburb of Kpalwega, was to put an end to the violent altercations between the two schools.

The burial of the okra stick, a gesture intended to symbolize the end of hostilities and the start of enduring peace, was instituted by the traditional authorities as part of the reconciliation efforts. But what started out as a moment of solidarity swiftly descended into chaos.

Students from both schools started throwing stones at one another as tensions increased, disrupting the event and injuring numerous people.

Some pupils are running for their life while stones are being pelted.
The injured pupils were sent to Quality and Vineyard hospitals in Bawku for medical treatment, and the Bawku Divisional Police Command moved quickly to contain the situation.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) and school officials were adamant about carrying out the peace ceremony in spite of the violence.

The symbolic burial of the okra stick was accomplished with the help of the senior prefects from both schools, which was a positive step in the direction of peace.
