Two arrested in Kete-Krachi with 86 parcels of suspected Indian hemp hidden in car engine and doors

The Kete-Krachi Divisional Police Command has arrested two men in the Oti Region for allegedly transporting 86 parcels of substances believed to be Indian hemp.
The suspects, John Dzeble, 34, and Adzobi Mesiwotso, 24, were picked up during an intelligence-led operation on Saturday, June 15, 2025.
The Ghana Police Service announced the arrest in a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Tuesday, June 18.
According to the Police, the Anti-Robbery team intercepted an Opel Astra vehicle with registration number GT 6430-13. Dzeble was driving, with Mesiwotso as a passenger.
A search of the vehicle revealed multiple parcels of suspected cannabis hidden in various compartments, including the engine area, car doors, and boot.
A portable scale and a roll of masking tape, believed to have been used to handle and package the drugs, were also found in the vehicle.
“The suspects, along with the exhibits, are currently in police custody assisting with investigations,” the statement said.
The Oti Regional Police Command has praised its officers for what it described as a timely response and said efforts are ongoing to clamp down on drug trafficking in the region.
Possession, transport and distribution of illegal narcotics remain criminal offences under Ghanaian law. Security agencies continue to monitor and intercept trafficking routes across the country.
The Police have encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activity or share relevant information that could support similar operations.
