Francis Xavier Sosu, Madina’s Member of Parliament, has once again made Ghana proud by being honored with the prestigious U.S. Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for Voluntary Service for his exceptional humanitarian work and activism.
The White House-sponsored award was given to Sosu earlier this year at the Juneteenth celebrations in the United States by the Jacob-Abbey Global Institute for Leadership Studies (JAGILS).
As evidence of the increasing prominence of Ghanaian politicians on the international scene, the Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Alban S.K. Bagbin, was also recognized in a ceremony in the United States where people from all over the world came to honor Sosu and other notable recipients.
The award recognizes Sosu’s years of devoted service in Parliament and his international activism, which has made him a significant player in the human rights movement.
More into this
In order to advance justice and safeguard vulnerable communities, Sosu has diligently pushed for legislative reforms, such as Ghana’s historic repeal of the death sentence and the criminalization of witchcraft claims.
Distinguished to be accompanied by his spouse, Felicia Adwoa Konadu Sosu, and their four kids, along with other prominent individuals like Madam Vida, Director of Welfare at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) headquarters in Accra, and Dr. Prince Agyemang, the NDC’s Chairman in Washington, DC, Sosu represents Ghana’s growing impact in the world human rights arena.
Sosu was honored earlier this year as Ghana’s Political Personality of 2024 and as the Most Outstanding MP in Africa for Human Rights Advocacy. His path from a low-income family to becoming a lawyer, activist, and congressman is a testament to tenacity and a will to help others.
In addition to honoring Sosu’s individual contribution, this U.S. Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for Voluntary Service is a momentous occasion for Ghana, demonstrating the nation’s dedication to human rights and progressive governance.
