Youth Attack Wenchi Police, Release 8 Inmates
Eight prisoners escaped from police custody after an unidentified youth in the Bono Region’s Wenchi Municipality violently attacked DSP Nana Boakye Yiadom, the Municipal Police Commander, seriously injuring him.
Along with damaging property and interfering with operations, the mob seriously damaged the police station.
An unnamed police source claims that the event happened Tuesday morning when DSP Yiadom went to the Wenchi suburb of Tohaba to arrest a suspect.
The commander allegedly arrested the suspect’s pregnant wife and took her to the police station after learning the culprit was missing.
A group of young people who were incensed by this behavior stormed the police station to demand the woman’s release.
They caused damage to DSP Yiadom’s car, the charge office, and a number of other things during the attack, such as sliding doors, a refrigerator, a flat-screen TV, and computer equipment.
Eight prisoners were released as the group broke into the cells during the confusion.
While the matter is being investigated, DSP Nana Boakye Yiadom is presently being treated at the Bono Regional Teaching Hospital.
