Youth must leverage heritage for national development — Agyeman-Duah

The Director of the Manhyia Palace Museum, Ivor Agyeman-Duah, has urged the youth to leverage their heritage for the development of Ghana.

He emphasised that understanding cultural values and history empowers individuals to make meaningful contributions in politics, various professions, and family life.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the North Legon Little Campus, Mr Agyeman-Duah, an economic historian, underscored the importance of embracing one’s heritage, including cultural values and history, as a foundation for contributing meaningfully to Ghana’s progress.

Event

The school, which operates under the British Council’s Cambridge curriculum, provides pre-school, primary, and secondary education to prepare students for IGCSE, O-Level, and A-Level examinations and this year marked the graduation of the seventh batch of IGCSE students (17 graduates) and the fifth batch of A-Level students (two graduates).

The ceremony, which was held on the theme: “A Legacy of Excellence: Celebrating the African Heritage”, saw outstanding students being honoured, in addition to all graduates being presented with their certificates.

Notable recipients included Dziffa Avor, recognised as the top performer in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE); Jason Afari, awarded for excellence in the Advanced Level (A-Level) IGCSE examinations; and Awura Adjoa Antwi Adjei (Level 11), who received 10 prizes for her exceptional performance.

Excellence, service

Mr Agyeman-Duah encouraged graduates to uphold the tradition of excellence instilled by their institution. He stressed that a deep understanding of one’s heritage would equip individuals to excel in diverse fields, whether in politics, professions, or family leadership, ultimately driving national development.

He further urged the graduates to remain committed to service, integrity, and the advancement of Ghana, drawing on core values such as respect, honesty and collaboration. He highlighted the importance of relationships and networking, citing successful partnerships that have led to groundbreaking innovations.

Growth

The Managing Director of the school, Douglas Djarbeng, reflected on its growth since its establishment in 2007, noting that it had evolved from kindergarten to advanced levels.

He expressed optimism about the school earning national and Cambridge International accolades for its students’ achievements.

Mr Djarbeng revealed plans to further expand facilities, including the construction of an auditorium and a hostel, to further enhance the institution’s offerings.

Dedication

The Academic Head of North Legon Little Campus, Gifty Oku, commended the graduates for their academic excellence, resilience and dedication to shaping a better future.

She emphasised that these qualities were essential in an era where global citizens must navigate complex challenges.

“Our graduates are equipped with the skills, confidence and character to make a lasting impact in their communities and beyond,” Mrs Oku affirmed.
