27 Year Old Uruguayan footballer Tragically Passes Away After Collapsing

Juan Izquierdo, a defender for Nacional, passed away this month after passing out on the field during a Copa Libertadores game due to an abnormal heartbeat.

The 27-year-old Uruguayan has been receiving medical attention in a hospital following his fall on August 22, during Nacional’s match against Sao Paulo.

Izquierdo was placed on a ventilator on Sunday, and as of Monday, he was receiving neurological treatment.

The defender replaced former Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates at halftime in his team’s encounter against Sao Paulo.

In the 84th minute, he fell to the ground without coming into touch with any other players.

After receiving medical attention on the field, Izquierdo was taken to an intensive care unit very quickly.

Uruguay has postponed its first and second division leagues after the incident.
