90,000 Youth Apply For 12,000 Slots In security Services
After the recruitment portals were closed on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, around 90,000 people registered to join Ghana’s security services, according to Interior Minister Henry Quartey.
Mr. Quartey gave an update on the hiring process and noted the overwhelmingly positive reaction.
There were around 90,000 applications as of two days ago. That’s what the security companies in charge of recruiting told me,” he remarked.
Mr. Quartey did point out that there aren’t many vacancies open. A budget agreed by Parliament makes it possible to hire about 12,000 additional people for the security services.
He underlined that in order to choose eligible applicants from the sizable pool, the agencies will have to strictly enforce their eligibility requirements.
He revealed in an interview:
“All these 80,000 will be subject to the security agencies’ criteria to determine who qualifies for admission,” the Minister added, underscoring the competitive nature of the recruitment process.
“In fact, as at last two days, there were close to 90,000. That is the report that I had from the security agencies that was doing the recruitment,”
“But bear in mind that Parliament has approved a budget so there is an intake that the agencies will have to do and I don’t think that its going to go beyond maybe 12,000 or so.
“So all this 80,000, its up to the security agencies to use their eligibility criteria to be able to select who qualifies to actually be admitted”.
