Barcelona Working To Renew Lamine Yamal, Player To Do Pre-Season With First-Team In 2023

The last decade was not a promising one for La Masia and Barcelona as very few graduates made it into the first team. However, the last two years have seen the academy make an unexpected comeback, and it is safe to say that it is close to its former glory.

Gavi, Ansu Fati, and Alejandro Balde are three of the most giant gems at FC Barcelona, all of whom made it big from La Masia in the past two years. According to reports from SPORT, that list could extend next season.

According to the Spanish outlet, 15-year-old Lamine Yamal will do the coming preseason with the first team after impressing Xavi with his rapid growth.

His renewal is seen as the top priority, and the club intend to seal the deal neuter the end of the season. Given that they possess a great relationship with his agent, Ivan de la Pena, there should be no hurdles in the process.

Yamal currently plays at Juvenil A under the mentorship of Oscar Lopez and has made his debut for the youth Spanish National Team too. He is considered one of La Masia’s biggest talents and great things are expected of him.

The protege primarily plays as a secondary striker, right behind a natural number 9, and controls the game with his excellent dribbling and defence-splitting passes. However, he can play as a lone striker and is clinical in front of goal.

Xavi Hernandez has called up Yamal to train with the first team several times this season and considered him ready for a gradual step up. While it might seem premature to put the youngster on the world stage, the experience would do his confidence a world of good.
