No Sensible President Would Sign LGBTQ+ Bill – Kofi Akpaloo

Founder and Leader of LPG party Kofi Akpaloo has weighed in on the ongoing national debate on the  LGBTQ+ bill.

He cited the country’s crucial economic position as a reason for the President to hang the controversial bill for now.

Contributing to the Ghana Kasa show on Kasapa FM, Mr. Akpaloo said he was not surprised at President Akufo Addo’s delay in signing the bill .

He justified the President’s recent letter to Parliament to quit forwarding the bill to his office for assent until the Supreme Courts decides on the matter.

The Minority in Parliament frowned on the letter from the Presidency and called it “a threat against the nation’s democracy”

”I’m not sure anybody in his right sense occupying the seat President Akufo-Addo is currenting sitting on, will sign the bill. The country’s economy is recovering from the devastation caused by COVID, and the negative effects of the Russia-Ukraine war. There’s too much hardship in the country,”  Kofi Akpaloo stated.

”You recall the threat issued by the US Ambassador when the bill was passed in Parliament. We are not self-sufficient as a country, we depend on others to survive. I don’t support anyone practicing LGBTQ activities, however, we should not do things out of emotions. Have you ever heard that Saudi Arabia and Qatar which frown on LGBTQ activities have ever gone for a loan from any country before?  As a country, let us put our things right economically, then any president can fearlessly sign the bill into law.

Percival Kofi Akpaloo is a Ghanaian politician. He is the leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana. He was also the party’s presidential candidate for the 2020 Ghanaian general election.
