Ghana Revenue Authority Board Disbanded

The Ghana Revenue Authority Board is no more, with President Akufo-Addo set to unveil a new Board later today.

While no specific reason was provided for the dissolution of the Board, there have been recent reports of disagreements.

This action follows accusations from Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia who criticized the GRA for pressuring businesses over taxes.

The dissolution follows the resignation of Dr. Anthony Oteng-Gyasi, the Board Chair of GRA.

The dissolved GRA Board was chaired by Dr. Oteng-Gyasi, with members including Mr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, Mad. Adelaide Ahwireng, Prof. Peter Ohene Kyei, Mr. Kwabena Boaten, Mrs. Dela Obeng-Sakyi, Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari, and Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei.

There are unconfirmed reports indicating that the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Rev. Amishaddai Owusu Amoah, was fired. Sources within the GRA acknowledge hearing these rumors but are unable to confirm as no official statement has been issued.

At the GRA office, many employees are uncertain about the validity of the news. While some claim that the GRA boss was at the office on Tuesday, his absence on Wednesday has raised questions.

In December 2023, a group known as the Concerned Citizens of Ghana issued threats of protests regarding the continued tenure of Dr. Ammishaddai and Deputy Commissioner Ms. Julie Essiam.
