GAF To Raise Infrastructure With Water Farms & Sewage Systems
Major General (Maj Gen) Joseph Prince Osei-Owusu, the Chief of Staff (COS) at General Headquarters (GHQ) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), presided over a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, April 19, 2024, for the construction of several important projects. This was part of the ongoing efforts to address infrastructural challenges within the GAF.
The goal of these initiatives is to make life better for GAF soldiers stationed in Accra’s Burma Camp.
New sewage systems will be installed in all barracks as part of the program; work will start at the Arakan Barracks and Married Quarters, which are located behind the Defence Intelligence (DI) Office Block.
In addition, a single-bedroom structure behind the Defense Intelligence building will be replaced with a four-unit, two-bedroom, three-story building. The old building was destroyed by fire.
Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), is promoting a larger welfare package that includes these programs. The goal of the initiative is to develop Burma Camp’s infrastructure in order to increase the welfare of GAF soldiers.
As part of the initiative, a water farm will be built at the Air Force Barracks, expected to produce about 100,000 liters of drinking water daily. Additionally, similar water farms are planned for four other locations within Burma Camp, with two more sites designated for Teshie. These water farms aim to enhance water distribution throughout the nearby camps.
Major General Osei-Owusu assured the Military High Command’s dedication to troops’ welfare, aiming to replace outdated sewage systems starting at Arakan Barracks. Additionally, two new 315 KVA transformers were installed at Duala Barracks, addressing previous power shortages in the area.
